About Koh Larn

Koh Larn is an island off the coast of Pattaya and can be reached from Bangkok in 2 hours by car + 20-45 minutes by boat (*depending on the type of boat).

It had been many years since my last visit, and I was surprised to see that the color of the sea was so much more beautiful than I remembered! Not only because of the weather, but also because the number of visitors has decreased due to the corona, which is bringing back the beauty.

There are two landing areas on Koh Larn where ferries from Pattaya arrive. One is “Na Baan Pier” near Pattaya and the other is “Tha Wen Pier” on the other side of the island.

How to get there

Koh Larn is a remote island located approximately 9 km west of Pattaya.

To reach Koh Larn, first go to Bali Hai Pier (Thai: ท่าเรือแหลมบาลีฮาย) in Pattaya, which can be reached in two ways

Take a ferry from Bali Hai Pier Sanbashi (fare is 30 Baht per person/takes about 40 minutes)
Take a speedboat from Bali Hai Pier (fare is 400 baht per person/takes about 20 minutes).

The most recommended way to get there is to take the ferry, which costs 30 baht.

Although the destination changes depending on the time of day you board the ferry (see below for details), the fare is inexpensive and the ride is less bumpy, so there is no need to worry about getting seasick.

Speedboats, on the other hand, can arrive at any designated destination, but they are expensive and very bumpy.

When I took the speedboat, 3 out of 15 passengers got seasick and vomited, so unless you are confident that you will not get seasick, you should not take the speedboat.

Tips

In both cases, there is no need to reserve tickets or visit a ticket office.

Whether you take a ferry or a speedboat, you pay the fare directly to the attendant when you board the boat. The same is true when returning to Pattaya from Koh Larn.

It is safe to say that you can go to Koh Larn whenever you want.
